Low Cost Sales Recognition Programs
Aug 09, 2022And this one time...on the sales floor...
Low-cost recognition of top salespeople
Went a long, long way. 🎉
This was my first Director of Sales role at a startup in 2002, Business.com.
The dot-com bubble had just burst & I was scaling my inside sales team from 3 to 30.
But we had very little money for high-end sales recognition programs.
So I went to Walgreens and bought two packages of die-cast fighter jets and a box of thank you cards for less than $20.
And on a monthly basis, each rep who exceeded quota got a hand-written thank you note from the CEO and a die-cast fighter jet.
I called it the "Top Gun Club." ✈️
Honestly, I was embarrassed that this was all I had to give these top reps.
But then something interesting started to happen as I handed out those little fighter jets month after month.....
💪 The sales reps started lining them up on their cubicles and
💪 it became a badge of honor to have a fight jet AND of course,
💪 bragging rights for who had the MOST fighter jets.
So when you walked up and down the aisles, you could literally SEE who were our top reps!
💡 Learning lesson: sales recognition programs don't have to be expensive and lavish to achieve the result of praising, thanking and publicly recognizing your top salespeople.
What other low-cost sales recognition programs have other people experienced that they liked?
